Product description

–Susan Verde, New York Times bestselling author of
I Am Human

Explore the ways sunlight enriches the Earth, enhanced by colorful, dynamically shifting die-cut circles. Don’t be fooled by the board-book format; there’s plenty for readers of all ages in this interactive art book, written as a poetic ode to the power and importance of light…Becker uses the glowing swatches of color powerfully. Variegated shades of blue circle a wave’s crest; a decorative trio of gold, lime, and violet halos grain; a stark penultimate page of white moon against black background has no color at all. This book is demanding of its readers, but those who take the time are in for a treat. A well-crafted art book with emotional resonance.
–Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

The story lends itself to discussion with children and does an outstanding job of introducing complex ideas in a lighthearted, lyrical way…The text and illustrations work well together to create a sturdy, tactile experience will appeal to young children. This is an age-appropriate concept book. Highly recommended as a first purchase for public libraries and preschools.
–School Library Journal (starred review)

Forming a luminous, rainbow-hued sphere when the covers close, the circular pattern of colors resembles stained glass window panels in a house of worship, as well as a secular view through a kaleidoscope, reinforcing the mood of quiet awe and universal connection in the book’s final lines: “This light is you. And you are the light.” Becker’s artful board book offers opportunities for tactile play and deeper contemplation.
–Publishers Weekly

Becker (Journey, rev. 9/13, and sequels) presents a striking board book about colors, the sun, and, more broadly, the environment and our interconnected ecology…An eye-pleasing novelty board book for young children with additional depth that recommends it for slightly older budding environmentalists.
–The Horn Book

You simply have to experience this one for yourself, especially for the final spread. Simply exquisite.

  1. R A

A gentle poem exploring the nature of light. Interactive aspect engages children. Illustrated with simple water colour paintings.

  2. Marc

Beautiful book with a beautiful message
This book is tactile, interactive and simply beautiful. Read it aloud or to your self, hold the pages up to the light or create rainbows on your walls. Suitable for children and for adults to explore mindfulness. Excellent

  3. Christina M. Dambroski

    Perfect sensory book
This sensory book is so pretty. I cannot wait to see how much my soon to be grandchild loves it. This book will be such a great way to introduce colors.

  4. Eva

Un cuento que no puede faltar en la biblioteca de los niños! Espectacular! Precioso cuando le da la luz o lo explicas con una linterna en la oscuridad!

  5. Ari

    Eh. It’s fine.
I missed the window to return this & will probably donate it. A tiny part was damaged but beyond that I just don’t like the book. Simple can be great but it’s TOO simple for us & I am really not a fan of the art inside.. something about it just feels very lazy. Like they spent more time on the concept & cover than the actual content. As I said, simple can be great.. but this just wasn’t for us. We got it to read to our infant son as he grows up but neither of us are interested. He actually has a fantastic attention span for books but this is just ehhh. Some more color inside or more creative writing would’ve been nice.

  6. angie

Love the book and the simple art and what it says. But it’s much shorter and simpler than I imagined

  7. BL1

    Stunning book
Bought as a gift for a young baby/toddler. Throughly enjoyed and interactive when held up to the light, would recommend. Definitely one to keep and pass on, a special book.

  8. Kathie McMillan

Clever additive color in light effects
Sturdy transparent windows gradually add up to build a complete color wheel. Well made book!

  9. This “Particular” Girl

Most Beautiful Children’s Book in the World!
The listing does not do it justice. To be clear: it is a board book. A bit larger than most board books. And it’s white, not greyish. The text and images and cutouts and translucent colored sections are soooo beautiful!!!!! If I had known from the description how amazing this book would be, I would not have dragged my feet on purchasing for 6 months! I’m SO glad I finally bought it! Can’t wait to read it to my baby! And, honestly, even if I didn’t have a baby, I would want it for myself! So beautiful!!!

  10. Vicki the K

    Such a beautiful book
This book is very simple and very beautiful. It is a wonderful book to read to a child or anyone. The last words are ‘You are Light’. So simple and full of love. The colors and the way they change as you view the book are wonderful too. If you like color and light and if you value the light in all living things, this is for you.
